| Description: | This is a residential subdivision development consisting of 107 single family lots and two multi family parcels. The project is a redevelopment of the former Griesbach Barracks site. As a brownfield redevelopment, the project provided unique challenges and opportunities, including: - Subdivision was designed around existing trees and buildings which were to be retained or refurbished.
- Old infrastructure had to be demolished, abandoned, or removed, including approximately 1km of asbestos cement watermain.
- The project is one of the first in Canada which has made application for LEED Gold certification under the LEED for Neighbourhood Design Pilot Program, administered by the United States Green Building Council.
- The project incorporates many aspects of low impact/sustainable development, following New Urbanist principles of neighbourhood design.
Due to Griesbach’s unique situation, this subdivision required many non-standardized road and sewer configurations. In consultation with the various City of Edmonton departments, we were able to have many non-standard engineering design solutions and innovations in their engineering design review approved. |
